This TMA has a 30% weight in the overall assessment of the module. You will get a chance to look at how businesses develop and choose their competitive strategy, and how the organisation is managed. The purpose of any assignment is for you to critically demonstrate your learning and understanding of the module’s material in addition to doing your own research and use of library resources. Therefore, at least five additional resources are to be used in answering each question. These additional library resources are to be documented using Harvard style.
Please note that regurgitating course material only is not acceptable and may get you a failing grade. You need to critically think and answer questions, do your own research and additional reading, documented library research is a must, and illustrative supportive examples expected.
Your examples should demonstrate your application of materials read and additional reading and sources you have researched. Therefore, your examples should be clear current and show your ability to apply the material you have read and researched in a clear and critical manner. If someone read your examples, it should be clear to hm or her what the concepts are and their application in real business today. Your answer will demonstrate an extensive reading that relates to the concepts in the question, class discussion, and external diverse current reading and research .
A list of recommended Journals which are highly recommended for current strategy research and examples are included in your syllabi. You may choose from them to support your answers. You also can choose other Journals or library resources. The units you may study will include: Unit 1,2,3,and 4. Question One (1500 Words)_ 50 Ponits
Being critical is one of the most important topics but also the most difficult skill to develop. ‘Being Critical’ is a term you may come across but need to look at other related terms like critique, criticize, criticism, and critic. The Oxford English dictionary defines ‘critique’ as “the critical art”. Also, when you’re asked to “critically analyse”, “critically examine”, “critically describe”, or “critically evaluate...”; the word ‘critically’ matters.
Analyse and use the terms mentioned above to explain “What is Critical thinking and why do think it is useful in studying Dynamics of Strategy? If you can develop your abilities to think critically, you’ll increase your chances of success in your education at the university and will progress towards the goal of being a reflective practitioner. Do you agree and why? Support your answers with examples.
Question Two (1500 words) _ (50 Marks):
In his book Contemporary Strategy Analysis, Robert Grant provides us with a figure that illustrates the links between an organisation’s resources and capabilities on the one hand, and its potential to achieve competitive advantage on the other. Grant also argues that organizational resources and capabilities are durable, difficult to identify, imperfectly transferable, and not easily replicated. Therefore, it should be regarded as the organisation’s most important assets because they play a significant role in the firm’s competitive strategy.
Undertake a resource-based analysis of your own organization, or an organization with which you are familiar explaining the different types of resources assessed. Then, based on this assessment, what steps should be taken by your selected organization to exploit its strengths and to correct its weaknesses in relation to its current and future strategy? Use examples to suppoty your analysis.
Marks distribution: This assignment will be graded out of 100 marks, which will be allocated to your answer for the different questions. 20% will be deducted based on the following criteria:
